Local Weather Conditions
At Coodardie Station, like all of the Top End of the Northern Territory, there are two distinct seasons: the Wet and the Dry.
The Wet is a magical time of the year where the country and the animals are rejuvenated for the coming season. It typically starts in Dec and runs through to April. During this period between 700 and 1200 mm of rain is likely to be received. It is a time of instant growth, rich greens and much unpredictability. The weather is often very humid, with sudden thundercloud bursts of refreshing rain, but it can also be days of overcast monsoons or bright blue skies. The wet is the time for the more adventurous traveller who is interested in experiencing the Top End in all her moods and for someone who is prepared to be flexible and take what comes.
The Dry Season can be further broken into the Cool Dry (May to Aug) and the Late Dry (Sep to Nov). The Cool Dry is a most pleasant and predictable time of the year. Bright blue skies with warm days and cool nights are the norm and the country is still pleasantly green. The Late Dry sees much warmer days and drier country. This is sometimes offset by occasional storms. The
wildlife are actively congregating on the now scarce watering points making the Homestead gardens and bird baths the ideal spot to lazily enjoy their company.
